We are Linda and Jo, and we are passionate about British Wool. We’re on a mission to encourage people far and wide to consider the sheep, the farmer, British industry and the environment as we enjoy our crafts.

All of our yarn is hand dyed in Stratford-upon-Avon. We have both lived in Shakespeare’s County for most of our lives and we love it here.

Of course, Stratford is where William Shakespeare was born, where he married Ann Hathaway and their children, Susanna, Judith, and Hamnet were born.

We chose to present our Shakespearian heritage in our yarns in the hope that they hark back to a bygone age, where life was simpler.

With careful consideration to how we source and produce our yarns, you won’t find harsh chemicals or colours, you will find soft pallets developed as a salute to Shakespearean characters and plays. Of course this is our interpretation, no hard and fast rules.

We are mindful of the environment in everything that we do, we preserve water where we can and we make sure that, as far as is possible, our dye bath is exhausted to prevent dyes going down the drain. Natural fibers need less washing than man-made, and when they get to the end of their life they are compostable.

Shakespeare was a poet, playwright and actor. He produced many of our most famous plays.

Many of the houses connected to William Shakespeare and his family are located in Stratford and the surrounding villages, some of which are open to the public. See the Shakespeare Birthplace Trust for more information.

We love the theatre in Stratford. We are home to the Royal Shakespeare Company who perform many plays at the Royal Shakespeare Theatre and The Swan Theatre. See the Royal Shakespeare Company for more information.

Jo is a wonderful colourist and will conjure up the shades of A Midsummers Night, The Tempest, A Comedy of Errors and many more. Linda is working on the Shakespeare Botanicals, which is a collection of colours inspired by the Shakespeare gardens.

We hope that our yarn will take you on an journey of imagination as you enjoy your craft.

We look forward to developing many colours inspired by Shakespeare’s plays and poems over time. In the mean time enjoy what we have.
